ALA Apple MacBook Air Rules & Regulations
OFFICIAL RULES PARTICIPATION AS OUTLINED IN THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS IS REQUIRED TO WIN.
The "ALA Apple MacBook Air Campaign" (Campaign) is being conducted by the Association for Laboratory Automation (ALA) in accordance with ALA policies, bylaws and regulations. ALA policies govern on all provisions.
- ELIGIBILITY: Subject to additional restrictions below, this Campaign is open to all participants ages 18 or older, to whom this offer is available via the ALA Web site and other ALA communications vehicles. Employees, associated agencies, immediate family members, and Board members of ALA are not eligible. All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited by law.
- HOW TO ENTER: The Campaign begins at midnight March 11, 2008 and ends at 12 midnight January 23, 2009. Entry comprises a submission through established electronic association submission mechanisms of an abstract or poster for LabAutomation2009 or a manuscript for JALA. Your abstract, poster and/or manuscript do not need to be accepted for presentation or publication to be eligible to win. ALA reserves the right to disqualify illegitimate and/or bogus entries. Only one entry is permitted per submission category: abstract, poster or manuscript. However, a participant may enter once per each of the categories. Thus, one candidate may submit one abstract, one poster and one manuscript for a total maximum of three entries in the campaign. Entries may not be duplicated from one category to the next.
- PRIZE INFORMATION & ODDS: The only prize is one Apple MacBook Air (valued at $3,000). Odds of winning directly depend on the number of entries received. The following rules apply:
- One prize (Apple MacBook Air) is awarded solely to the presenting author randomly drawn from the collective entries of abstracts, posters or manuscripts.
- Once selected, the winner must sign the ALA Letter of Intent recognizing sole responsibility for the prize and releasing ALA of liability, taxes, candidate employer policies, and any other obligations.
- In recognition of the varying employer policies governing employee acceptance of prizes, those employer policies will be recognized and honored by ALA to the extent they are not inconsistent with and do not conflict with ALA policy and/or GAAP. However, ALA will not be responsible or liable for said policies. Winners have the option to decline the prize.
- The prize is not to be considered an obligation of ALA.
- SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION OF WINNER: The winner will be determined from all eligible entries received in a random drawing to be conducted on or about 1/28/09 by ALA staff. The winner need not be present to win. The winner will be notified by phone, email, or mail. If any prize notification is returned as undeliverable, that entrant will forfeit the prize and the prize will be awarded to an alternate winner in a separate random drawing. Entry and acceptance of prize constitutes permission to use winner's name, prize won, hometown, likeness and statement and other personally identifiable information for online posting and promotional, advertising and marketing purposes without further compensation or notice, except where prohibited by law. All taxes related to the value of the prize are the responsibility of the winner. ALA will assume reasonable shipping expense of the prize to the location of the winner ($500 shipping limit).
Prizes are non-assignable and nontransferable. No substitutions allowed by winner. The winner is solely responsible for reporting and payment of any taxes on the prize.
- GENERAL: In no event will more than one prize (Apple MacBook Air) be awarded. ALA is not responsible for late, lost, stolen, damaged, garbled, incomplete, misaddressed, or misdirected entries or communications; for errors, omissions, interruptions, deletions, defects, or delays in operations or transmission of information, in each case whether arising by way of technical or other failures or malfunctions of computer hardware, software, communications devices, or transmission lines or data corruption, theft, destruction, unauthorized access to or alteration of entry materials, loss or otherwise. ALA disclaims any liability for damage to any computer system resulting from participation in, or accessing or downloading information in connection with this Campaign, and reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to modify, cancel, terminate or suspend this Campaign should any virus, bug, technical failures, unauthorized human intervention or other causes beyond ALA's control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the Campaign. In the event of such cancellation, termination or suspension, a notice will be posted. ALA reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant if his or her fraud or misconduct affects the integrity of the Campaign.
- ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS CAMPAIGN IS DISQUALIFIED. SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, ALA RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH ENTRANT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. ANY ENTRY DEEMED ILLEGITIMATE AND/OR BOGUS BY ALA SHALL BE DISQUALIFIED.
- Under no circumstances shall ALA or its directors, officers, employees, or agents be liable for any direct or indirect losses or damages arising out of or in connection with this Campaign. You hereby waive any and all claims, demands, actions, or causes of action of any kind you may have directly or indirectly against ALA or its directors, officers, employees, agents and other representatives resulting from, arising out of, or in any way related to your access to, use of, or participation in this Campaign.
