Kerstin Thurow, Ph.D.
| The primary goal of Kerstin Thurow, Ph.D. is to bring together high-performance academia and industry in the field of laboratory automation. She pursues this in her positions as a Professor for Life Science Automation at the University of Rostock, the Director for the Institute of Automation, and the Director for the Center for Life Science Automation (CELISCA), headquartered in Rostock, Germany. Focused on the unique relationship and transfer of technology from the university setting to industry, Kerstin has spent more than a decade of research in analytical, chemical and bio-automation for applications in food engineering, drug development and forensics/security. Kerstin is what we call a member with history: she's a past presenter at ALA conferences and a contributor of articles to JALA. She is also the "Kerstin" in Kerstin & Hilmar's Book of the Month review, which appears monthly in LabSnap. As a member of the Board of Directors and the European community, Kerstin's mission is to strengthen our organization's impact on the laboratory automation community worldwide. In her spare time, she enjoys walking the shores of the Baltic Sea and practicing Ikebana, a Japanese culture of expressing emotions and topics through the arrangement of flowers.
